Preparing for Omicron – or Any Seasonal Flu

NOTE: This is not medical advice, but our experience with this variant, and based on that as well as what MD's have suggested, what we think it would be good to have on hand. We're also including a list of supplements some Dr.'s have recommended at the end of the article. Always consult your physician.

-->Have you or family members had this variant? Please leave your experiences in the Comment Section below, we would love to hear from you!

To cut to the chase here, I woke up at 2:30 am on New Year's Day not being able to swallow without extreme pain, and enough phlegm to drown in.

A few days before I was treated for an ear infection, but the Dr. was out of Covid tests. A few days before that, himself was treated for a sinus infection. Also going untested. So by the time we really knew what was going on, it was well underway.

So later that morning I went to a local clinic seeking relief from the very sore throat. Here's the results:

The test does not distinguish between Covid-19 and its variants, including Omicron, but it is the Omicron variant that is currently circulating.

I followed all the Dr.'s advice, though drinking fluids was almost impossible at first for me. There were some things I had on hand that also helped that I would like to share with you:

  1. Chloraseptic Spray- Lozenges won't help if you cannot swallow. The spray is more accurate and at least as effective.
  2. Mucus Relief DM- that's the Guaifenesen the Dr. listed. This went a long way to break up the mucus and it worked FAST.
  3. Vicks Vaporub also helps loosen congestion and drain sinuses.
  4. Tissues. Lots of tissues.
  5. A treat for when you can swallow, like juice pops or popsicles.
  6. Herbal Tea- I used Traditional Medicinals (R) Throat Coat. If your issue is all upper respiratory, their Breath Easy tea may help.
  7. Help with your lower GI- Such as Immodium A-D.
  8. DayQuil/NightQuill
  9. Since you will be on quarantine for at least a little while, something non-strenuous to keep you entertained. Mostly I slept, but himself had trouble sleeping.
  10. You should always have enough food on hand for 2 weeks. Flu or not. Here's some help on doing that.

I have heard/read that the 'vaccine' was less helpful against the Delta variant than the original Covid-19, and that they are finding it even less appropriate for this one. Different sources, different info. Sigh.

Whatever info you get, just don't rely solely on the vaccine. Just in case. And even when you are feeling better, take it easy on yourself to fully get back to normal.

Here is a list of the OTC supplements some Dr.'s recommend, that we take:

  1. Quercetin or Black Cumin Seed- these, similar to Hydroxychloroquin, helps Zinc get into your cells.
  2. Zinc stops the virus from replicating inside your cells. Enough said.
  3. Vitamin D 3, actually a hormone not a vitamin, helps your body's immune system regulate itself. Sometimes our immune system  can be our worst enemy, that is if it goes into overdrive. These help it go slow and steady as needed.
  4. Vitamin C, no surprise there, but you also need D3 to help your body absorb it. In the good weather, gardeners get more of these than some others do.
  5. Magnesium likewise works with the other vitamins to help shore up your immune system.

My daughters tell me many of these can be found in products like Emergen-C and other immune boosting supplements. Check the label to make sure you are getting 2 and 3, as they work together.

Again, this is in no way medical advice but my experience after a very quick recovery once diagnosed.

It never hurts to be prepared. Stay safe out there!
